Terms of Service

Last updated

These terms govern your use of the Lighthouse website, the Lighthouse app, and everything we offer through them. Using Lighthouse means you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

The short version

  • Lighthouse is a budgeting tool. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and the decisions you make with it are yours.
  • Every account starts with a 30 day trial. It asks for no card and it does not turn into a paid subscription on its own.
  • A subscription renews automatically until you cancel. Cancelling leaves your access in place to the end of the period you have paid for.
  • We do not refund periods already paid.
  • When a trial or a subscription ends, your data stays. The account continues in read-only mode, so you can still read it and export it.
  • Your budget data is yours. What we do with it is set out in the Privacy Policy.
  • We can suspend an account that is used to attack the service or to break the law.

The sections below are the agreement itself. This summary does not replace them.

What Lighthouse is

Lighthouse is a budgeting application that helps you organise and plan your personal finances. It gives you tools for planning and organisation, nothing more.

Lighthouse does not provide financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Every decision you make on the basis of what the app shows you is your own, and the responsibility for it is yours.

Who can use it

You must be at least 18, or the age of legal majority where you live, whichever is higher. Using the service confirms that you meet that requirement.

Your account

Lighthouse needs an account. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure, for the accuracy of the data you enter, and for everything that happens under your account. Write to the address below if you think someone else has access to it.

Free trial

Every account starts with a free trial of 30 days, counted from the day you sign up. It asks for no card, so nothing is charged when it ends and it never becomes a paid subscription by itself. The trial is granted once per account, and signing in again does not extend it.

Trial length can change for new accounts. The one that applies to you is the one your account was given when you signed up.

Subscriptions and payments

Lighthouse is a paid subscription, billed monthly or annually. Current prices and what each plan includes are on the pricing page, and the terms that apply to you are the ones shown when you subscribe.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Subscribing authorises a recurring charge on the billing cycle you chose, and that charge repeats until you cancel. Changing plan, updating a card and cancelling all happen in the billing portal inside your account. Fees may carry tax depending on where you are, and where the law requires it we charge that tax.

If we change the price of a plan, your subscription keeps the price you started on for as long as it stays active. A new price applies to subscriptions started after the change, and we tell you before it takes effect.

Cancelling and refunds

You may cancel at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves your access in place until the end of the period you have already paid for.

We do not refund subscription periods that have already been paid, except where the consumer law where you live requires it.

When access ends

When your trial ends without a subscription, or a subscription lapses, nothing is deleted. The account continues in read-only mode: your budgets and their history stay where they are, you can read them and export them as CSV, and you can subscribe again whenever you want to write to them.

Acceptable use

Do not misuse the service. That means no attempts at unauthorised access, no interference with how the system runs, no use of Lighthouse for anything unlawful, and nothing that degrades the service for other people. We may suspend an account that breaks this.

Intellectual property

The Lighthouse software, design, branding and written material are ours unless something says otherwise. You may not copy, modify, distribute or reverse engineer any part of the service without our permission.

None of this touches your budget data. That is yours, and you can export it as CSV whenever you want it.

Your data

How we collect and handle your data is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Availability

We aim to keep Lighthouse up and reliable, but we cannot promise uninterrupted access. Maintenance, updates and technical faults can all take it offline for a while.

Disclaimer

Lighthouse is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee that it will run without error, that it will be reachable whenever you want it, or that using it will produce any particular financial outcome.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Lighthouse is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, for financial losses that follow from budgeting decisions, or for lost profits, savings or data. You use the service at your own risk.

Nothing here removes a liability that cannot be excluded under the law that applies to you.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end access to Lighthouse if these terms are broken, if the service is being misused, or if a legal obligation requires it.

You may stop using Lighthouse at any time. Deleting your account is immediate and cannot be undone: it cancels any subscription, removes your billing and sign-in records, and deletes your budgets and everything in them. Export anything you want to keep before you ask for it.

Changes to these terms

We update these terms when the product or the law changes. A material change is posted on this page with a new date at the top, and continuing to use Lighthouse after that means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and disputes arising under them fall to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore courts. If you use Lighthouse as a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in.
