About Lighthouse

Most budgeting tools report the past accurately and describe the present optimistically. Lighthouse is built for the opposite: a number you can act on today.

What it is

Lighthouse is an envelope budget. Money that arrives waits in Ready to assign until you give it a job, and every envelope shows what it still holds, with the payments you have already scheduled against it listed underneath.

Most tools show a balance that includes money already promised to a landlord, a lender, or an annual renewal three weeks out. Lighthouse puts that promise next to the number, so what remains after everything you have agreed to is never a guess.

How it thinks about money

  1. Progress computes itself. A goal reads its own envelope; nothing is logged by hand, so nothing is skipped on a busy week.
  2. One indicator answers one question. Progress, this month's contribution and scheduled payments are three numbers that never merge into a score.
  3. Falling behind is a recalculated figure, not a reproach. Red is kept for an envelope below zero, and spending what you saved is what saving was for.
  4. Automation is transparent and reversible. The app shows what it is about to do before it does it, and every change can be undone.

What it does not do

It does not connect to your bank. You enter transactions or import a CSV, and nothing about your banking login ever passes through Lighthouse.

It does not show ads or sell anything about you. Subscriptions are the entire business.

It does not lock your data in. Your budget leaves as CSV whenever you ask, and a lapsed subscription makes the account read-only, not gone.
